This frame was made from a weathered 2 x 4 piece of driftwood I found. The wood was painted black and then I painted my interpretation of the plummage on a common loon, the top being the neck area. The photos are all common loons taken on various lakes on the Whitefish chain of lakes near Crosslake, Minn. The photos appear washed out because I took this photo outside on a bright sunny day.

The frame is about 18 by 20 inches, the photos are about 4 by 5 inches.

Mangrove Branch

This frame was made from a dead mangrove branch found near Port Canaveral, Fl. The branch was cut in half to retain the irregular shape and the barnacles. The wood & barnacles were coated with multiple coats of a clear acrylic resin to strengthen the wood and stabilize the barnacles. The photo was taken at the locks of Port Canaveral, Fl. The bird is a snowy egret.

This frame is made from wood used for a paddock at a horse farm near Ocala, fl. The profile on the outer edge of the wood was made by horses chewing the fence. The wood was cleaned, but no finish was applied, the inside edge has been milled with a router.

This frame is made from remnants of an old cabinet I found in a trash pile at Port Canaveral, Fl. the wood was trim moulding on the cabinet, the finish was existing when I found it. The frame is 18 by 8 inches and 3/4 inch thick, it has been fitted with a mirror.

This frame was made from a dead mangrove branch covered with barnacles/

I found the wood on the shore of the Indian river in Brevard county, Fl.

The barnacles and the wood was stableized with multiple coats of a clear acrylic resin.

The photograph was taken at Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas.

Dew On Plants

This frame is made from remnants of a marine structure destroyed after the 2004 hurricanes in Fl. I found the wood along the Banana river in Brevard county, Fl. The wood is about 2 inches thick and 11 inches square. The color and the beveled edges were existing. The plant is an aquatic plant commonly called a pennywort. The photo was taken during the early morning near Ocala, Fl.; the photo appears washed out because I took the photograph of the finished frame outside on a bright day.

Scalloped Rectangle

This frame is made from wood from a marine dock that was destroyed in 2004 from hurricanes that passed through Fl. The wood is 1 1/2 inches thick and the frame is 18 x 11 inches. The arcs on the outer edge were existing resulting from where the wood planks were cut to fit around a structural pole. The inside edge was milled with 1/4 inch round over router bit and a copper metallic finish was applied to the wood. A mirror was fitted to the 4 inch square opening

Spoonbills

This frame is made with the remnants of a dead australian pine (casuarina) trunk. The wood was sawed to retain the bark and the irregular outer edge and yield smooth surfaces on the face and inside edge. The sawed surfaces were sanded and varnished. The frame is about 15 inches on each side. The photograph was taken at a retention pond near Port Canaveral, Florida. The birds are roseate spoonbills and a great egret, the background foliage are mangroves. I took the photograph of the completed frame outside on a sunny day so the photograph of the spoonbills appears washed out.

Red With Inlay

I found the wood for this frame at Port Canaveral, Fl.

It was a 2x4 board and I rip sawed the board to achieve this

width and expose new wood on the inner edge for contrast.

I applied the red stain and I fabricated and installed the oak inlay.

in Beaufort S. C.

Palm Tree Trunk

I'm not sure what this is, I think it is a root from some type of a palm plant. It is fibrous like a palm trunk. I was intrgued to see if I could make into a frame. The frame is about 15 inches on each side. The photo is an aquatic plant taken at a farm pond near Ocala, Fl. The plant's common name is a buttonbush(cephalanthus occidentalis). The photo shows the various stages of seed dispuresment.

It is from a dock that was destroyed .
The wood is encrusted with barnacles
has exposed rusty nails on the edges .
